Will soybeans get a much-needed rain?

Soybean farmers across Missouri are hoping for a rain to help the crop finish strong.
“A good August rain can really make a soybean crop.”
In Carroll County, Kyle Durham says the soybean plants are full of pods and taking a closer look “they’re largely three-bean pods and there are a few two-bean pods. The dry weather might have hampered us.”
In Moniteau County, Russell Wolf says the hot, dry weather has already taken some the top end off his soybeans.
“The thinner spots are starting to show.”
There’s rain in the forecast for parts of the Midwest this week. Drew Lerner with World Weather Incorporated says it’s going to be light in many areas, including Missouri.
“Minnesota and the Dakotas might get a few inches of rain, but even Iowa might have a tough time getting more than an inch of rain this weekend or next Monday’s event.”
Lerner says there’s greater chance of significant rain after Labor Day, but it’s not expected to provide a two-to-three inch rain many farmers would like to see.
The pod-fill window is narrowing in Missouri. USDA says soybeans are just starting to drop their leaves and 82 percent of Missouri’s soybeans are setting pods, ahead of average.
