Wrong seat position contributes to crash– General Air travel News

The pilot reported that he was doing touch-and-go touchdowns at the airport terminal in South Saint Paul, Minnesota, in the Cessna 150 K.

After the first landing and during the takeoff roll, he experienced trouble maintaining directional control and aborted the launch. He cabbed the plane back to the runway and left once more.

After touchdown, he applied full power for launch and the aircraft veered right of the path centerline. He used brakes as the plane left the runway and hit a taxiway indication.

The plane came to rest in a verdant area adjacent to the runway, sustaining substantial damages to the fuselage.

The pilot told investigators that he placed his seat as well far onward, which prevented him from differentiating in between rudder and brake inputs.

He further mentioned that if he had used an added seat pillow, he can have positioned the pilot’s seat better aft and avoided the unintended brake inputs.

Probable Reason: The pilot’s unintended brake application during departure which resulted in a loss of directional control and runway trip. Contributing to the mishap was the pilot’s inappropriate seat placement.
